Why SVG instead of GIF for a logo animation

A GIF is a fixed grid of raster frames: it has a hard-coded pixel size, a limited color palette, and it gets blocky the moment you scale it up. An animated SVG is markup, not pixels — the browser redraws it at whatever size the page asks for, so the same file looks sharp in a 16px favicon and a 400px hero image. It also tends to be dramatically smaller: LogoAnimator's dot-matrix animations describe a grid of dots and a motion function, not per-frame bitmaps, so a loop that would be a multi-hundred-kilobyte GIF often comes out as a few kilobytes of SVG.

How the animation is actually built

Your uploaded logo (PNG or SVG) is sampled into a grid of dots in-browser — no server round-trip, no upload of your artwork anywhere. Each animation preset is a motion function applied to that grid: a sweep moves dots in left-to-right, a ripple radiates outward from the center, a spiral winds them in. The live preview you see while tuning density, speed, and color is exactly what gets baked into the exported SVG, so there's no surprise between what you designed and what ships.

Supported formats and where the SVG can go

Source uploads accept PNG and SVG. Exports default to an animated SVG, which drops straight into a GitHub README via a plain <img src> tag (see animated logo for GitHub README), works as a page favicon, or serves as a lightweight app/site loading indicator (see logo as a loading spinner). Destinations that specifically require a raster loop — Slack emoji, email signatures, social banners — get a separate GIF export tuned to that platform's size limits instead.

Free vs Pro

Animated SVG exports are free, with a small watermark. Removing the watermark and unlocking the GIF-based presets requires Pro, which also adds a commercial-use license for your exports.
